Comedian Corey Forrester

Not many comedians are able to please audiences at comedy clubs while still being what comedians refer to as a comic's comic. Corey Forrester is a crowd favorite at The Comedy Catch in Chattanooga, Tennssee. However, you will be hard pressed to find a stand-up comedian in Eastern Tennessee that doesn't lose their shit (comic language for laughing until it is embarrassing) when they watch Corey perform. We got a chance to interview Corey via email, so check out what he has to say to KnoxComedy.com.

KnoxComedy: Do you remember the moment you first had fun on stage doing comedy?
Corey: About 8 years ago, it was my second time on stage ever
(The first time was at a mexican bar and grill, it was brutal as most would imagine). It was at The Comedy Catch (now my home club) during one of their "Open mics", I put that in quotes to show sarcasm, back then there wasn't really an open mic per say, it was a band show that took place in the bar area where comedians would be thrown in randomly... The crowd never calmed, smoke filled the air... It was a nightmare for newer comics who hadn't developed their "dealing with the crowd" chops yet. Several comedians went before me and bit it pretty hard, I'll be honest, I was nervous. When it was my time to go, I hit the stage, grabbed the mic and told the crowd to, "Shut the hell up and pay attention, the band will be back on shortly" They did, and my first joke hit really hard, they were with me from the get go and I remember feeling a calm over myself, I did 8 minutes... An absolute eternity at that point, especially considering I only had 5 minutes worth of material.... All about my penis of course. The way I felt after taming that crowd after so many funny guys were unable to was the first good feeling comedy had given me... It certainly was not the last.

KnoxComedy: What is an accomplishment some might know from your time in comedy?
Corey: Comedians may know me from my time spent at the top of the very popular comedy website Rooftopcomedy.com. They featured me on their Daily 8 quite a bit and I was the first comedian featured on their "Quick Bits" section. As for right now, I am pretty well an unknown, I did just record a song with Cledus T Judd that will be on his new cd, maybe once that comes out people will know who I am!

KnoxComedy: Who are your idol comics?
Corey: George Carlin, Sam Kennison, Louis Ck, Dale Jones,Tim Wilson, Jerry Seinfeld, Big Ed Caylor, Cousin Ricky Peardon, Ron Shock, Greg Giraldo, Bill Hicks... Plenty more who influenced me, this is just the top of my head.

KnoxComedy: What is right/wrong with stand-up comedy today?
Corey: What is right about stand up comedy today is that there are all types of acts being developed... I don't like to use the word "Alternative", as Tim Wilson once said about Alternative Music "Alternative to what? Something that sounds worth a fuck?" I like to say, non traditional. Back in the day, the only guy who really hit it mainstream doing something other than "set up, punch" was Andy Kaufman... Now there are tons of those guys and I absolutely love it... It's not my style, but it is refreshing and a nice change of pace. What is wrong in my opinion, is the entitlement of a lot of young comedians (and older not funny ones). This idea that once you have put in x amount of time, you deserve to be featuring, or you deserve to be headlining.. Or you deserve this cherry gig, or this sweet spot in the line up. No one owes you anything, and I include myself... I deserve nothing simply based on the fact that I have been doing stand up for 8 years, if I deserve something, it's because the time I put in produced good material. I will admit that there were times early on when I thought I should be further along (I shouldn't have been), every comic has... But the fact is, just because you are killing at the open mic (in front of a crowd you brought) does not mean the club owner is a dick for not putting you on the main stage. Dues are different for every comic... This will never change, and we will never truly accept it.

Corey will be appearing this Thursday and Friday at 1341 Grill in Sevierville, Tennessee.

I am very excited about my new logo design, it will appear on all of my merchandise, and soon will be adapted onto my website. My best friend of 24 years, Kris Robertson drew this up for me. I gave him one instruction...make it look like an old band t-shirt from the 1970's. That's it, that's all I told him. He.Nailed.It. This design went straight from my head to his fingers somehow without me having to guide him at all, the kid is a genius and truly "gets" me. T-Shirts are coming in tonight and will be available at all of my shows and soon here at coreyforrester.com. Thanks to the support of all of my fans (coming to shows, asking the club owners to bring me back, and buying my stuff!) 2012 is looking like it is going to be a great year in comedy for me. The next chance to catch me locally (all my Chickamauga, Chattanooga, and surrounding area friends ) will be my quarterly return to The Comedy Catch in Chattanooga. I will be opening up for the hilarious Dale Jones ( Last comic standing) Feb. 9-12 and a special valentines day show on the 14th. Come out and support live stand up comedy and also, buy one of my shirts! I need money, you need clothes... This is how the economy works people!!

This is a picture of me and one of my comedic heroes, the legendary Ron Shock.
Those of you who know Ron or have seen his act over the years know the true
genius that is his comedy, but unless you have had the pleasure to sit down and chat with him, you may not know the beautiful spirit within.
Ron was recently diagnosed with a rare form of pelvic cancer and is undergoing treatment as we speak in Houston, Tx. He is keeping a video journal almost everyday titled "The Cancer Chronicles", it is amazing to see someone keep trucking under such circumstances. The fact that he is doing this is a testament to his ongoing love for his audience.
Please pray for Ron and his wife Rhonda as they travel down this scary road. Pray to
Whoever it is that you pray to for a speedy recovery.
The world needs more Ron Shocks...
Not less.

Thu, 08 Dec 2011 10:58:00 -0800 I Now Pronounce You.... Same Last Name Havers http://www.coreyforrester.com/i-now-pronounce-you-same-last-name-havers http://www.coreyforrester.com/i-now-pronounce-you-same-last-name-havers

This Sunday, December 11th, I will turn 24. Big deal..whooptido.. I'm aware that that is neither old, nor an accomplishment. However, In your early to mid 20's a lot of strange things start happening; Your metabolism comes to a hault, your hairline (if you are balding to begin with) starts its final retreat, and the worst of them all in my opinion is the sudden pressure to settle down with whoever it is that you have been perfectly happy with for the last year or so.... you know f^$%^ marriage!

The dictionary defines marriage as the social institution under which a man and woman establish their decision to live as husband and wife by legal commitments, religious ceremonies, etc. If that doesn't sum up 'Love', I personally don't know what the hell does.

Let me preface the upcoming cynacism with this... I have NOTHING against people getting married, so long as your reasoning is correct. Are you in love? Can you not even begin to imagine your life without the other person? If you see some random person of the opposite sex 'like' their status on Facebook, even though you trust them do you get that weird tickely feeling that starts in your throat only to end in your butthole? If so... great.. get married, as long as the other person feels this way, you will most likely have a wonderful 8-9 years with each other before she bangs a bass player.

If your reasoning is wrong however like say; I don't want to die alone, I need better rates on my car insurance, I want to have a pretty wedding with all my friends there jealous of how beautiful I look..Great.. get married, you will have a miserable 8-9 years with the other person until YOU bang the bass player.

This has always been the problem i've had with marriage, it is very hard to decipher between those who want to marry you and those who just want to get married. A friend of mine was recently dumped by his girlfriend because his 5 year plan did not include marriage (It was listed as very optional). The two had been together for nearly a year and things seemed to be hunky dory (Im assuming since Hunky Dory isn't a word, that is a perfectly acceptable spelling), much to his chagrin, when he expressed the notion that marriage was something he felt would come at a slighlty later date, she bailed. Now I know what you're thinking, and I promise you.. I told him the same thing, "Dude, lie your ass off, she will be happy, you will be happy and eventually she will forget about it and you can recross that bridge every 7-10 months when you come to it". Well, anyone that knows this guy will tell you the same thing.. He is a complete and total dumbass.

Now back to my point... this girl was supposedly head over heels in love with my buddy, yet two weeks later she was already dating another guy.. pretty serious about it too. So I was forced to tell my buddy, "I dont think she wanted to marry you, I just think she wanted to get married", naturally he called me an asshole and punched me in the balls (Deserved). Will her new realtionship lead to a happy marriage? Though he wouldnt admit, i'd like to think my buddy at least hopes so, though statistically she doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell, or the more politically correct analogy.. a Ron Paul's legitimate shot in the election.

In summary, if you are in love with someone.. can financially make it work, and can stick to waking up next to the same person every morning for the rest of your life... get married... i'll make a beautiful toast at your wedding. If you just want to appear more stable, get more money back on your taxes, or to prove to your dad once and for all that you are NOT gay... just let it go. I promise, your head will thank you later for there not being a bullet hole in it.

Bye for now. I have to go ice my balls... they hurt for some reason.

Corey.

Sun, 27 Nov 2011 19:59:23 -0800 Great Weekend Back At Home! http://www.coreyforrester.com/great-weekend-back-at-home http://www.coreyforrester.com/great-weekend-back-at-home

This weekend I was fortunate enough to be home with my family for thanksgiving. We take a lot of things in life for granted, and I will be the first to admit that for me, the love of my family is one of them. It was so nice to sit and talk with dad on thanksgiving knowing that (because of his heart attack earlier this year) he was almost not here for it. Talking with my 91 year old grandmother never gets old, even if it is the same stories over and over... It is still 10 times as interesting as most of the crap that passes for television these days.
I have one of the best mothers a guy could ask for (don't you dare tell her I said that). When I made the jump into professional comedy, she was one of the first to say, "If it makes you happy... It makes me happy". There are a lot of doctors who don't get that kind of support from their mother.
My sister is one of the funniest people I know, swear to God if she knew how to write a joke, this would be KirbyForrester.com and I would be her web guy.
While home I decided to stop in to my home club, The Comedy Catch to do some guest sets because two of my best friends were in town.
Pictured with me are two people I consider family, Jodi White and Dale Jones. Not only are they two of my favorite comics, they are two of my favorite people. No matter how bad of a mood I'm in, how rough of a couple months I've been having, I can see these two and realize how truly blessed I am.
This thanksgiving weekend.... I am thankful for people who love me.. In spite of me.

Now that I'm through being a sappy sap, I'll plug some shows!

I will be back home at The Comedy Catch December 8-10 featuring for another one of my good friends, Cledus T Judd.

December 11th at The Comedy Catch (my birthday) I will be the victim of The Roast Of Corey Forrester. Come out and say hey!

Love y'all!

Jerry-falwell
The Dixie City Council was low on morale, so they headed down to their local Golden Corral to discuss Jimmy Thompson's brand new plan... They're gonna get the ball rolling on the Alcohol ban.

Jimmy said "Gentleman, drinking is a sin against Jesus", as he loaded his plate with ham and three different cheeses.
"We've gotta do something about these kids having fun, and might as well discuss it over a cinnamon bun."

Kevin Teems stood up to second the motion, as Sammy Sharp was making quite the commotion. Talking about Moses, high on that mountain while running a drumstick under the new chocolate fountain.

"Eventually drinking will lead to heavier drugging, and then before you know it, two boys will be hugging, we cant have that in the church, its one of the worst sins" Sammy said with gravy dripping down both of his chins.

Jimmy stood up and shouted, "Gentlemen, grab your coats.. we've only been here an hour and I've got enough votes, lets head to Baskin Robbins to get some dessert" Thats about the time Jimmy's chest started to hurt.

He fell to the ground like a wet mail sack, it was clear Jimmy was having a heart attack, he asked the lord to save him as his fever broke, and thats about the time God Finally spoke.

God said "Jimmy, I understand your conviction, but you'll have to understand theres a contradiction, you see gluttony is a sin very sad but true, so if you ban alcohol, ban buffets too"
